MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A bill ratifying an agreement to establish a Russian Navy base in the Syrian port of Tartus could be submitted to lower house lawmakers on November 7-8, a parliamentary source told RIA Novosti on Monday.
Deputy Defense Minister Nikolay Pankov disclosed plans this month to set up a permanent base in the Eastern Mediterranean seaport. A parliamentary source later told RIA Novosti the base would be term-limited to 49 years.
Both houses of Russian parliament ratified earlier in October an agreement with Syria that authorizes the indefinite deployment of a Russian air group at the Hmeimim airbase.
