A new 40mm door-breaching grenade was recently tested by US troops at Fort Benning in Georgia. The testing took place during a live-fire demo at the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiments (AEWE) in October.

Held at the Maneuver Center of Excellence, the breaching round, made by Florida-based munitions developer Chemring Ordnance, made easy work of test doors during the experiment.

This year’s AEWE focused on five areas under the Army’s warfighting challenges: prototype capabilities and experimental concepts, provide solutions that address enhanced small unit situational understanding, sustainment in austere environments, effective mission command, and soldier protection and mobility.

In a promotional video for the event, Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster of the Army Capabilities Integration Center remarked that, "Our Army operating concept talks about innovation. Innovation being how we turn ideas into valued outcomes, and how we innovate to stay ahead of determined, and increasingly capable enemies."

McMaster offered that this kind of innovation happens through "collaboration across soldiers, capability developers, our scientists and research and development community and industry."
