MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The paper, seen by The Guardian which shared details on Tuesday, modeled scenarios to assess the impact of such a decision, including on carbon emissions, which are expected to go up by at least 45 million tons.
Under the EU’s priority dispatch rules, transmission system operators must give priority to renewable generators – wind and solar farms – when scheduling and dispatching energy in Europe’s power grid.
The purpose of this regulation is to promote renewable energy as part of the EU’s energy security and sustainability policy.
The UK outlet said Brussels was assessing risks from ending priority dispatch in its post-2020 energy directive, which could make renewable generators more likely to be underfunded or switched off compared to fossil fuel generators.
