"Neither Patrick [Murphy] nor any current or past employees have ever been contacted regarding this matter, and we are confident an examination of the facts will result in its dismissal," Karp said, as quoted by the Hill newspaper.
According to the newspaper, the FBI has launched an inquiry into an alleged illegal donation scheme, after former top aide to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell submitted an allegation to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) in June. The document said that a member of wealthy Saudi family, Murphy’s friend Ibrahim Al-Rashid violated limits on political donations by contributing money to Murhy's campaign using other people’s names.
Karp added, that McConnell’s aide’s complaint was aimed at increasing the chances of the Republican Party’s Marco Rubio, Murphy’s major rival, for the victory in 2017 Senate elections.
