DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is committed to help civilians in Aleppo and evacuate the wounded if it is provided with security guarantees, organization’s regional representative office in Damascus told Sputnik on Thursday.
"In order for it [pause] to succeed, it is crucial for all those who fight in Aleppo to abide by such a pause and to reach an agreement between themselves. Whether there is a ceasefire or not, we remain committed to help the population in Aleppo and our team based there stands ready to provide life-saving humanitarian aid or take part in the evacuation of the wounded and sick, as long as we obtain the necessary security guarantees from all those who fight in Aleppo. Without such guarantees, it will be challenging for us to carry out our operations and it can expose the local population to great risks," the ICRC representative said.
On Wednesday, Chief of Russian General Staff Gen. Valery Gerasimov said that Russia would introduce a 10-hour humanitarian pause in Aleppo on November 4.
Russia has already introduced the so-called humanitarian pause in October, to ensure the safe evacuation of civilians and unarmed militants from eastern part of the embattled city via eight designated corridors. During the humanitarian pause, al-Nusra Front terrorist group, recently renamed as Jabhat Fatah al Sham, outlawed in Russia, prevented civilians from fleeing the city, attacking them. As the evacuation failed and the humanitarian pause ended, the Syrian government launched an offensive against the militants.
