Sarkozy, Juppe Launch Center-Right Bid for French Presidency as Hollande Bombs
PARIS (Sputnik) – France’s former leader Nicolas Sarkozy says that if elected president in 2017, he will not go for another term in 2022.

"I'll be 67 at the end of this second term, if, hypothetically, the French entrust it to me. That would be the time to thank France for all these years devoted to its service," Sarkozy said during Thursday debates aired on BFMTV.

Meanwhile the main rival of Sarkozy, France’s former prime minister Alain Juppe, turned 71 earlier this year.

Speaking during the Thursday primary debate of the French right-wing candidates, Juppe said that he would support Sarkozy if France's ex-president wins the primary.

"If Sarkozy wins the primary, I will support him without hesitation," Juppe said.

Aside from Juppe and Sarkozy, five other candidates from France’s right-wing parties have been registered for the primaries, which will be held on November 20-27.

The first round of the French presidential elections is scheduled for April 23, 2017.
