WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US authorities in cooperation with Caribbean partners seized 1,786 kilograms of cocaine in Puerto Rico with an estimated street value at $45 million, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said in a news release on Thursday.
"US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), working jointly with the Caribbean Corridor Strike Force (CCSF) partners, seized 1,786 kilograms of cocaine Monday in Catano," the release stated.
During the arrest of alleged drugs trafficker Sandy Hernandez, US Homeland Security agents discovered the stashes of cocaine together with $30,000 in cash and three weapons, the release esplained.
Hernandez is one of six defendants charged with conspiracy to import controlled substances from the Dominican Republic into Puerto Rico, the release stated.
If convicted, each defendant faces a minimum sentence of ten years to life in prison, the release noted.
