NEW YORK (Sputnik) — New York Police Department (NYPD) assessing the reliability of intelligence that al-Qaeda is planning attack on New York the day before US presidential elections, NYPD Deputy Commissioner spokesperson Stephen P. Davis told Sputnik on Friday.
“We are still assessing the credibility of intel. Our security remains a shared responsibility. We continue to encourage anyone who may possess any information to contact us,” Davis said.
Davis noted NYPD was working with the FBI as well as counterterrorism and intelligence bureaus in light of the reports.
"In every case, we take any intelligence reports regarding New York City seriously," he stressed.
US intelligence officials reportedly alerted state and local law-enforcement authorities of a potential terrorist attack in several states, including New York on the day before the election, CBS News reported on Friday, citing unnamed sources.
