WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Venezuelan government and opposition must resolve the country’s political crisis because no external solution will work, US Under Secretary of State Thomas Shannon said in a briefing Friday.
“At the end of the day, nothing can be imposed,” Shannon said of the dialogue process. “The Venezuelans themselves will determine the success or failure of this.”
Relations of Maduro and the parliament have been strained since the election of a new opposition-controlled parliament in January, as the opposition was not in favor of the current leader, in particular, considered the issue of Maduro's impeachment, as well as tried to introduce an amendment to reduce the term of the president from six to four years.
