The 11th China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition, known as Airshow China, kicked off earlier on Tuesday in the Chinese city of Zhuhai. The airshow is a platform for international aviation and aerospace enterprises to demonstrate the latest technology innovations in the market.

The total identified volume of China’s military exports in 2008–2015 reached $12.2 billion, according to the Moscow-based Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade (CAWAT).

The bulk of exports, $6.155 billion, or 50.45 percent of the total, was delivered to Asia-Pacific countries, primarily Pakistan. South American countries, including Mexico, made up the second largest group of importers of Chinese weapons. The third largest group of importers included the countries of sub-Saharan Africa.

China was the largest importer of Russian weapons and military equipment from the early 1990s to the mid-2000s. Chinese engineers cloned Russian-made equipment, gradually reducing the amount of Russian military exports to China, whose share of Russia’s military exports went down from 21.84 percent in 2008 to 1.69 percent in 2015.

Airshow China is the international aerospace trade show endorsed by the Chinese authorities. It is held every two years since 1996.

Over 40 countries and a total of 700 exhibitors took part in the previous airshow in 2014, according to the expo's website.
