“This exercise is being held as part of our preparations for counterterrorism operations we are going to conduct both in Serbia and abroad as part of international battalions,” General Velickovic told Sputnik Serbia.
“We have held such exercises before and we have always been happy to have a chance to share combat experience with the mighty Russian army and other armies too,” he added.
The Takhion UAV, unveiled two years ago, was immediately put into service at the Russian military base in Armenia.
Developed to conduct reconnaissance missions to support ground forces, the Takhion has a maximum range of 40 kilometers. It is equipped with video, photo and infrared cameras.
In addition, the Takhion drone can be used as a radio relay station, which can smoothly operate at a height of up to four thousand meters above sea level.
This drone-turned-relay station is capable of operating at temperatures between —30 and + 40 C.
The UAV has a liftoff weight of about 25 kg and can stay in the air for up to 6 hours.
The Slavic Brotherhood-2016 joint exercise runs until November 9.
