WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Sunday, FBI Director James Comey said in a letter to the US Congress that the agency has not changed its July decision not to recommend criminal charges against Clinton.
"American voters deserve to see what's in the 650,000 emails. [FBI Director James] Comey should release them ASAP [as soon as possible]," Gingrich stated in a Twitter message.
Clinton was investigated whether she intended to break US law by using a private server and email account for official business during her tenure as secretary of state from 2009 to 2013. In July, Comey did not recommend criminal charges despite the fact the FBI found Clinton communicated classified materials via the private server.
Gingrich, however, said the fast pace of the FBI review of the new batch of emails suspicious.
"State Dep[artment] wants five years to review emails, Comey did it in eight days. Something is fishy. Comey met election need not national security need," Gingrich tweeted.
Earlier on Monday, legal watchdog Judicial Watch said the US Department of State has requested up to five years to review 31,000 pages of Clinton’s emails recovered during the FBI investigation.
