TBILISI (Sputnik) — Gentiloni arrived in Georgia on October 6. He is set to hold a number of high-level bilateral meetings in the country’s capital Tbilisi. Gentiloni would also visit Azerbaijan and Armenia as a part of his regional tour.
"Russia is a very important and large neighbor of Europe… We should try to hold proper and consistent negotiations with Russia," Gentiloni told journalists during his visit to Georgia.
Since 2014, relations between Russia and the European Union deteriorated amid the crisis in Ukraine. Brussels, Washington and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 and over Moscow's alleged involvement in the Ukrainian conflict. Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations, warning that Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.
