MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian and Israeli lawmakers plan to discuss the situation in Syria and in the Middle East in general at a joint meeting of the Russian Federation Council's and Knesset’s foreign affairs and defense committees, the chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian upper house of parliament said on Monday.
"We suggest building the ongoing work along the four topics. They are the current state and prospects of bilateral relations between Russia and Israel, regional security issues, the situation in the Middle East, and in Syria," Konstantin Kosachev said.
He added that parliamentarians of Israel and Russia also plan to share best practices in security and counterterrorism fields.
According to Kosachev, among other important topics expected to be discussed by the sides are countering falsification of history and World War II outcomes, as well as fighting against neo-fascism and neo-Nazism.
The meeting of the Israeli and Russian lawmakers is held ahead of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to Israel, scheduled for November 10.
