Socialist-Backed Radev Leads in Bulgaria's Presidential Race
00:31 GMT 07.11.2016 (Updated: 10:54 GMT 11.03.2024) Former Bulgarian Air Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Rumen Radev, nominated by an initiative committee of the Bulgarian Socialist Party is leading in the first round of country's presidential race, the first figures from the Bulgarian Central Election Commission (CEC) said Monday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the CEC, the politician gathered support of 26.45 percent of voters at the Sunday elections.
Bulgaria's legislation implies that the candidate for presidency should gain over 50 percent of votes, if over a half of the voters turn out to vote. In case none of the candidates gain the necessary amount of votes, the second round of elections will be held in seven days.
