WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has relieved an election observer in the United States of duty because the individual used his Twitter account to campaign for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, OSCE spokeswoman Lauren Baranowska told Sputnik on Tuesday.
"I have been informed that the [OSCE] Head of Mission has spoken with him and will be enforcing the code of conduct," Lauren Baranowska said in an email. "He is now not observing, and his opinions will not be taken into account in the [OSCE] report."
OSCE observer Panagiotis Arkoumaneas of Greece had been assigned to observe voting in Washington, DC, according to a photo of credentials posted on his Twitter account.
On Sunday, Arkoumaneas retweeted a news report of FBI Director James Comey's decision not to prosecute Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton over mishandling classified material as secretary of state.
"This should give a final boost to Hillary's campaign. Great news," Arkoumaneas wrote with the retweet.
The OSCE told Sputnik it had sent more than 300 observers to US polling sites in 34 states with strict instructions to remain neutral.
