DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — On Sunday, the SDF announced in a press conference in Syria's town of Ain Issa the launch of the operation Wrath of Euphrates to retake Raqqa from the jihadists. The Wrath of Euphrates force includes a reported 30,000 fighters, including Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians and Armenians. According to media reports, US special forces are backing the advance.
"I am sure that the decision of our SDF brothers to start struggle to liberate [Raqqa] in coordination with the US-led coalition was a strategic mistake, which will finally result in negative consequences for the Syrian Kurds," Omar Ose told the Al-Watan newspaper.
He added that the United States would use the Kurds for its own purposes and then would betray them to the benefit of Turkey.
"Washington will sell the Syrian Kurds to Turkey… The struggle for Raqqa will last for a long time and the SDF should reconsider their position on the issue of coordinating their activities with the United States," the lawmaker said.
The SDF are one of many parties to the Syrian civil war along with the official Damascus and numerous opposition forces, as well as terrorist groups, such as Daesh.
Raqqa has been under control of Daesh, a terror group outlawed in the United States and Russia among many other countries, since 2013.
