MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A group of strategic advisers from the United Kingdom, Canada and Lithuania moved beyond introductory to practical work in Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, the ministry reported on Tuesday.
"A group of foreign strategic advisers has proceeded with the practical stage of work in Ukraine’s Defense Ministry. Today, on November 8, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Gen. Stepan Poltorak met with a group of foreign strategic advisers. During the meeting they discussed the situation in the east of Ukraine, and their further work in the national defense ministry," the statement on the ministry’s website read.
As noted in the statement, Poltorak stressed the importance of external assistance and evaluation of the initiated reforms. He added that the group of advisers would soon meet the heads of the subcommittees of the Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense Reform Committee.
"The results of group work depend on the atmosphere and on how people perceive each other. I am convinced that the activities of the foreign strategic advisers group would be successful and fruitful, as you have experience and a strong desire to help," Poltorak said.
The ministry also reported that the foreign advisers praised the results achieved by the Ukrainian army during the last two years.
The group of foreign advisers is set to assist Ukraine's Defense Ministry in reforming the country’s army.
