WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — More than half of US citizens expected to vote in the state of Florida have already cast their ballots, Florida Secretary of State Ken Detzner said in a press release on Tuesday.
"As of this morning, reports from the counties show that 3,874,929 voters voted early at the polls and that 2,636,783 vote-by-mail ballots have been cast," Detzner stated. "This represents a turnout of more than 50 percent before Election Day voting had even begun."
Detzner also noted all polls opened on time across the state on Election Day, and voters have until 7:00 p.m. local time (1:00 p.m. GMT) to cast their ballots.
Florida is considered a key state in the US presidential election.
