PRAGUE (Sputnik) – The surprising victory of the Republican Party's candidate Donald Trump in the US presidential election has to be respected and dealt with pragmatically, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said Wednesday.
"The US citizens chose change. Let's respect it and be pragmatic about it. Trump, unlike some of his predecessors, at least knows where CR [Czech Republic] is," Sobotka wrote on his Twitter.
Sobotka added that he was certain that the United States and the Czech Republic would remain allies.
The Republican candidate was married to Ivana Trump, nee Zelnickova, born in the Czech Republic. Their three children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric, actively participated in their father's campaign.
Earlier in the day, in a victory that few polls or experts thought was likely, Trump received 276 electoral votes against Hillary Clinton's 218 votes, out of 270 needed to win.
