MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) jihadists electrocuted on Wednesday 30 civilians in the Iraqi city of Mosul over their alleged links to the government forces, local media reported.
"The IS militants today executed by electrocution 30 civilians in one of the positions they control in the western part of the Mosul city center, having accused them of cooperation with the government forces," a source in the Nineveh province told the Alsumaria TV channel.
On October 17, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced the start of the military operation to retake Mosul from Daesh, outlawed in many countries including Russia.
According to local media, about 30,000 Iraqi soldiers and 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters are taking part in the operation, backed by airstrikes carried out by the US-led international coalition.
