The university poll showed Governor Asa Hutchinson with a 60 percent approval rating and indicated that only 33 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of same-sex marriage.
Trump brought out a slew of Arkansas officials during the Republican National Convention in July to slam the state’s former first lady. Attorney General Leslie Rutledge accused Clinton of switching between a New York accent and an Arkansas accent at random, and throughout the night there was much commentary on the former US Secretary of State’s judgement.
Business Insider quotes Governor Hutchinson remarking, "Hillary Clinton's bad judgment… resulted in instability in Egypt, Syria, and Libya; the rise of ISIS; the resurgence of Russia; an emboldened North Korea; inappropriate ties between foreign governments and the Clinton Foundation; and a more dangerous world."
A Talk Business & Politics/Hendrix College poll showed Trump beating Clinton, at 56 to 33 percent. Talk Business CEO Roby Brock said at the time, “Arkansas voters seem unfazed by Donald Trump’s controversies and the results of this poll reinforce Arkansas’s solidification as a Republican state,” and, “The strength of these Republican numbers at the top of the ticket could affect turnout and voter preference down-ballot in legislative and local races.”
