MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Trump won the US presidential elections despite most of the analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat to Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton. Trump got 276 electoral votes against Hillary Clinton's 218 votes out of 270 needed to win.
"I can only wish that Trump will coordinate and collaborate with all the great powers to strengthen international humanitarian laws implementation. I salute Trump’s position on the role of Syrian government and Russia because first of all, this is compliant with the United Nations position, it shows that Trump is a realistic policymaker. I hope Trump will also enjoy the support that may come from [Russian President] Vladimir Putin towards the peaceful solution of the Syrian crisis," Salib said.
Salib said she was happy Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton did not win the US election.
"She [Clinton] has been supporting destabilization of Syria out of international law and that brought a lot of drama for the civilian population, look at what happened in all the Syrian cities," Salib elaborated.
Christians in the Middle East, especially in Syria and Iraq, are subjected to persecution by the militant groups, such as Daesh, outlawed in Russia and many other countries. The militants, adhering to a fundamentalist doctrine of Sunni Islam, persecute Christian population amid the destabilization in the region, the activities of the terrorist groups and the ongoing civil war in Syria.
