JERUSALEM (Sputnik) — Russia is ready to close the so-called sad page in relations between Moscow and Washington if the administration of newly elected US President Donald Trump have willing to do so, Medvedev said.
"Of course everything will depend on the willing of the new [US presidential] administration: if they are ready to launch a full-scale cooperation with our countries, to close this sad page that has been written during recent years by attempts of the incumbent US administration, then we are also ready," Medvedev told reporters.
"The president of our country and my colleagues in parliament have already given their opinions. And they all agree that, first of all, this is the sovereign choice of the citizens of the United States. Secondly, we respect this choice, we are, naturally, ready to develop relations with the President-elect Donald Trump and the vice-president [Mike Pence], whom I have already congratulated," Medvedev said.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump won the US presidential elections despite most of the analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat to Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton. Trump got more than 270 votes needed to win, according to the NBC projection.
