WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President-elect Donald Trump will direct a unified Republican government of the United States, US House of Representatives speaker Paul Ryan said at a press conference on Wednesday.
"Donald Trump will lead a unified Republican government," Ryan stated. "Trump heard a voice out of this country that no one else heard. He connected with people no one else did. He turned politics on its head."
Ryan noted that he congratulated Trump and his running mate Mike Pence on their victory, and discussed the possibility of working together on important issues facing the country.
"We will work hand in hand on a positive agenda to tackle this country's big challenges," Ryan emphasized.
Initially Ryan would not say whether he would endorse Trump, but in June he announced he would vote for Trump. However, in August, Trump declined to endorse Ryan only to decide to support him later on.
In the presidential election on Tuesday, Trump won Ryan's home state of Wisconsin with 48 percent of votes against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton's 47 percent.
