MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Victory in the US election by Donald Trump came as a well-deserved reward for his courage to say things as they are and his courage to stand against establishment, a spokesman for the German right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) said in reaction to the US election outcome.
"The establishment must recognize that in the long run, one cannot rule disregarding people’s opinion. Trump was rightly rewarded for his courage to rebel against felted/matted structures and to speak uncomfortable truths," Jorg Meuthen, who is also the party's chairman in the German Baden-Wurttemberg state, said in an AfD statement.
Trump’s victory left Germany’s political spectrum largely divided. German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, called victory of US Republican presidential candidate a warning for Germany, while Germany’s Die Linke party leader Dietmar Bartsch called Trump’s victory a "black day" for the whole world.
