MOSCOW (Sputnik) The victory of Republican Party nominee Donald Trump in the US elections is likely to signify more peaceful US foreign policies and better US cooperation with the East, Russia in particular, vice-chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Serbian Parliament Aleksandra Djurovic told Sputnik.

"I expect that Mr. Trump [will] lead peaceful policy with better cooperation and coordination with East, especially with Russian Federation," the lawmaker from the Serbian Progressive Party said.

She noted that that majority of Serbian people were hoping for Trump to win.

"Now when results are known and Mr. Trump won, that fact [is] making us optimistic for future cooperation with USA," she said.

According to Djurovic, Serbia wanted Trump to win mainly because they didn’t want to see his Democratic Party rival Hilary Clinton heading the US administration due to her stances regarding Balkan affairs.

"Clinton family is big supporters of Kosovo independence where Albanians erecting monuments of thanksgiving to Clinton family for their help," the Serbian lawmaker said.

Earlier in the day, Trump won the US presidential elections despite most of the analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat to Clinton. Trump got 276 electoral votes against Clinton's 218 votes out of 270 needed to win.
