WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – Hundreds of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s supporters were gathering in front of the White House into Wednesday’s early hours as Republican Donald Trump was performing unexpectedly well in the presidential vote count, a Sputnik correspondent observed.
Most in the assembled crowd were young adults, some of whom, chanted, "I believe in Hillary!"
The gathering was calm, even as Trump’s supporters remained cautious but confident that their candidate would be elected the 45th president of the United States.
As of early Wednesday, Trump was leading in three of six electoral battlegrounds — Florida, Ohio and North Carolina. Results of voting in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania remained unclear, with the major-party candidates running neck-and-neck.
