WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter still believes there is a chance to close the Guantanamo prison, Cuba before President Barack Obama leaves office, Defense Department spokesman Peter Cook said at a briefing Thursday.
"If there is an opportunity to do that, we want to take all steps necessary to try and do that," Cook told reporters at the Pentagon. "The secretary of defense is open to having this conversation with members of Congress who are key players in all of this. He still believes there is a pathway to do that."
