MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Trump won the presidential race on Tuesday with 290 electoral votes against his rival Hillary Clinton's 232. The inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.
"NATO is obviously key. We are responsible for each other, a two-way street," Albright told The Guardian on Wednesday.
During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly stated that allies within NATO needed to pay more for their defense and even suggested the United States should rethink its involvement in the military alliance because it was "obsolete" and other states did not pay a fair share.
Albright, who expressed fears that the Trump administration might reverse decades of cultural and military progress by the United States, said that she hoped that Trump who is inexperienced in public service would come to the realization, once he becomes better informed, that national security policy could not be a zero-sum activity and that compromises must be made sometimes to reach a win-win scenario.
