To understand what effect the presidency of Donald Trump might have on the war-torn Middle East, Sputnik Arabic sat down with Former Deputy-Speaker of the Parliament of Lebanon Ely Al-Ferzali to learn his take on the issue.

Trump's Sponsors 'Won't Allow Him' to Soften Policy Towards Russia
The former politician pointed out one of the positive promises the president-elect made during his campaign: the promise to reset the US relationship with Moscow, which will bring stability into the world and make it multipolar.

Ely Al-Ferzali suggested that Trump could also do away with terrorists and stop American interference in the internal matters of other countries, as many of the problems in the Middle East, among other places, are directly related to US intervention.

"I think that the war against terrorism and cooperation with Russia are the major factors which could bring peace and stability in the world," he said, in an exclusive interview with Sputnik Arabic.

"It is unacceptable to use terrorism as a tactic or for strategic purposes. But if there is really coordination with Russia in this fight, it might bring positive changes in the Syrian and Lebanese future," he suggested.

Trump's Focus on Fixing Domestic Problems Could Mean Era of World Police is Over
With Trump's election, the settlement of the Syrian crisis is near at hand, he added.

The former parliamentarian, however, pointed out some negative aspects of Trump's election, such as his racial view on some matters connected with the 9/11 tragedy. Nevertheless, he added that it is too early to forecast Trump's future, judging by his election campaign.

"US policy regarding Hezbollah isn't likely to change, however it is logical to suggest that the US will try to set peace in the region with Russia's assistance," he concluded.
