BEIJING (Sputnik) — China’s first dark matter probe satellite DAMPE (Dark Matter Particle Explorer), named Wukong, discovered 1.6 billion particles 328 days after its detector started to search the signs of invisible material, local media reported on Friday.
The satellite has detected 1.6 billion particles by November 10 and has the largest observation scope and the best particle-resolving ability and energy resolution ratio, according to the People’s Daily newspaper.
At the moment, its orbital height remains stable at around 504 kilometers [313 miles], the newspaper reported.
The Wukong satellite was launched on December 15 from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu province in the north-central part of China.
