WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – The US Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) will have more authority and more resources to go after Jabhat Fatah al Sham leadership, the newspaper said on Thursday citing anonymous US military officials.
According to the officials, JSOC-controlled drones were already conducting more operations in September and at least four "high-value" targets have already been killed as a result of the operations.
Syria's civil war between government forces and a wide range of insurgents, including opposition groups and terrorists, such as Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al Sham, both outlawed in Russia, has raged for some five years and has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
A US-led coalition has been carrying out airstrikes aimed at eradicated Daesh in Syria since 2014, albeit without the consent of the Syrian government.
All diplomatic efforts by Russia, the United States and other mediators have so far failed to completely stop violence in Syria.
