European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has said in an interview with BBC that the EU needs to show US President-elcet Donald Trump "what Europe is."

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Juncker said that Brussels has to instruct Trump on the procedures associated with the EU functioning.

"We will need to teach the president-elect what Europe is and how it works," Juncker said Friday, as quoted by the BBC broadcaster.

He added that the results of the election could have an effect on US-EU ties "in their foundation and in their structure."

Trump secured an unexpected victory in the presidential election on Tuesday with 290 electoral votes against his rival Hillary Clinton's 232. His inauguration will be held on January 20, 2017.
