MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia and the United States should meet each other halfway to improve their chilly relationship after Donald Trump enters the White House, a former Russian finance minister said Friday.
"Russia has been saying, most recently after Donald Trump’s election, that we want to improve our ties with the US. This means both sides must go halfway," Alexei Kudrin said at an international conference in Moscow.
There have been hopes in Russia that Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election could bring the two world powers closer together.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had similar foreign policy approaches, adding these similarities were a good basis for optimism.
