MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Rospotrebnadzor is taking part in the Eighth Review Conference of the Biological and Toxins Weapons Convention (BTWC) in Geneva as a member of the Russian government delegation.
“On the sidelines of the conference, Rospotrebnadzor and the Russian Foreign Ministry presented the initiative to establish under the auspices of the BTWC biomedical units to contribute to protection against the use of biological weapons, to conduct an investigation of their possible use and to make a contribution to the international efforts in the fight against outbreaks of dangerous infections,” the statement read.
The BTWC is a multilateral disarmament treaty, which bans an entire category of biological and toxin weapons and is a key element in the international community’s effort to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
The conference is being held on November 7-25.
