Russia's Khrulev Military Academy for Logistics and the Spetstehmash Plant have created unique ultra-compact field kitchens for the country's Airborne Troops, special forces and mountain brigades; these mini mobile kitchens are due to be put into service next year, the Russian newspaper Izvestia reported.
The newspaper quoted the Academy's spokesman, Sergey Romanchikov, as saying that the kitchens' preliminary tests had already been conducted in the North Caucasus mountains.
Despite weighing between two kilograms and eight kilograms, a new field kitchen will help up to 16 servicemen prepare hot meals at a height of more than two thousand meters in about 20 minutes, according to Izvestia.
The mini-kitchen resembles a Russian nesting doll, featuring two or three cooking pans installed inside a small container.
Specially designed for mountain and special forces, the most compact 2-kg kitchen can be dismantled into separate blocks weighing about 700 grams each.
They can be distributed among all members of a mountain brigade or a special forces unit tasked with parachuting from an aircraft or a helicopter.
