REYKJAVIK (Sputnik) — The Russian Embassy in Iceland is being forced to counter an information campaign against Moscow, with the diplomats having to actively work to expose "NATO’s fakes and lies," Russian Ambassador to Iceland Anton Vasiliev told Sputnik.
"Iceland, of course, has not been exempted from the information war being waged by NATO against Russia [which is being carried out] instead of a dialogue that should be held. In this regard, we [Russian diplomats] have to work actively explaining all these numerous fakes and lies poured on Russia by some Western media," Vasiliev said.
Iceland is a member of NATO, despite having no army. It is believed that Iceland's contribution to the alliance is the Keflavik airbase.
There is a strong movement to withdraw from NATO in Iceland.
