BEIJING (Sputnik) — Yan Yongming, formerly the head of a pharmaceutical company in the province of Jilin, fled the country after being accused of embezzlement, hiding first in Australia and then in New Zealand. The businessman, who was on the list of the most wanted people in China, was returned to his home land through the joint efforts of the China's and New Zealand's law enforcement.
Yan stood trial in New Zealand for using false identity but was acquitted and granted citizenship in 2008.
This extradition is part of China's "Fox Hunt" campaign that aims to find and return fugitives who are suspected of corruption.
