Russia does not expect immediate changes in its relations with the United States under the leadership of US President-elect Donald Trump, but would like to launch a dialogue to discuss existing problems, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) – The official said that Moscow wants to begin a dialogue with Washington.

"We would like to improve our relations. We understand very well that we cannot expect immediate changes. It would be extremely illogical to expect immediate changes in the policies of a country as large as the United States," Peskov said. "We want to see mutual readiness and will to have dialogue, to discuss existing problems."

Republican candidate Trump gained 289 electoral votes, in the November 8 presidential election, 19 more than 270 needed to win.

During his campaign, Trump has been advocating better cooperation with Russia, including on anti-terror fight and the Syrian crisis.
