MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, up to 600 far-right protesters participated in an anti-migration march organized by the Swedish branch of Nordic Resistance Movement that exists in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. At the same time, two other rallies were held in the city, protesting against the Nordic Resistance Movement's event. Despite the efforts of law enforcers to separate the rival groups, the scuffle erupted.
"A number of people have been held. They were aggressive at one of our barriers," Lindgren said, as quoted by The Local news portal.
The official added that police had registered at least two cases of violent rioting and people involved in the cases could face up to four years in custody.
Amid the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe, Sweden has become one of the most desired destinations for migrants, because of its stable economy and social welfare system that could provide migrants with relatively high assistance.
After the country registered over 163,000 arrivals in 2015, Stockholm started to tighten its migrant policy, in particular, by imposing identity checks on people arriving in the country, later denying of accommodation to those who were refused asylum.
