“The reasons for Texas to leave the union are exactly the same regardless of who the president of the United States is. Since the inception of the organization twelve years ago, we have seen that Texans are growing tired of living under 180,000 pages of federal laws, rules and regulations administered by 440 separate agencies and 2.5 million unelected bureaucrats.” Miller said.
“The belief is that the best people to govern Texas are Texans,” he added.
“We are totally a state wide organization. We have supporters in all 254 Texas counties,” Miller said.
He spoke about what happened with the Brexit and how the situation in Texas is somewhat similar.
Miller said that eventually legislation will need to be passed, people in Texas will be given a vote on the issue and then the decision will need to be abided by the politicians.
“Our true engagement with the Texas legislature was back in 2009 when we begin to really address the issue of wanting a referendum and what we found is that we were met with a lot of thumbs up and support from the legislature at the time.”
He further said that despite the support, there was some healthy dose of skepticism, however, TNM still managed to build a cohesive political organization which began to see solid gains politically in the last couple of years,” the president of the party said.
He explained that Texans with their fierce independence streak have even within the context of the union been able to produce an economic prosperity for their citizens that is unparalleled to the rest of the union.
“This fact cannot be argued that in terms of economic growth and job creation over the last ten years, Texas has outpaced the US except in the last two quarters, where the poor US economic policy has flattened Texas’ economic growth to make it the same as the US overall. So, in terms of the policy, Texas gets it right when the US gets it wrong,” Miller said.
The president of TNM further spoke about how Texas has diversified its economy both in energy and agriculture over the last few years, so it is not just about the big oil.
Talking about other groups that are emerging that would like to see their own independence, specifically in California; Miller said that he received a private message from the leader of the “Yes California Independence Campaign.”
However, he said that the fact of the matter which everyone must understand is that there are “sovereignty movements in over 35 states and whether it is California, New Hampshire, Vermont, Alaska etc., we have begun to formally have discussions, work together and coordinate our activities, so it is an exciting time for those who are fans of self-determination in North America,” Miller concluded.
