Trump, Santos Agree to Strengthen US-Colombian Ties

Colombia and the United States will work on strengthening the bilateral relations, Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The two countries have collaborated on trade, terrorism, fighting drug-related crime and other issues. In 2012, the United States — Colombia Free Trade Agreement signed in 2006 went into force, scrapping tariffs on about 80 percent of US exports to Colombia.

"I have talked to President-Elect [of the United States] @realDonaldTrump. We have agreed to strengthen the special and strategic relationship between Colombia and the United States," the Colombian president wrote on his Twitter account Friday.

​Republican candidate Trump won in the November 8 presidential election, in a stunning triumph over his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.
