ANKARA (Sputnik) — On the flight back after the official visit to Belarus on Saturday, Erdogan told reporters that he congratulated Trump on his victory in the US presidential election in a phone call and expressed a wish to hold a meeting in Turkey after Trump would assume office.
"I expressed my wish to include Turkey among the first few countries he will visit after taking up the office," Erdogan was quoted as saying by the Daily Sabah newspaper.
Erdogan also noted that during his election campaign, Trump voiced his stance on Syria and Iraq that complied with that of Ankara and added that both countries would discuss the issues shortly after the presidential inauguration on January 20, 2017.
Trump won the US presidential election on Tuesday with 290 electoral votes against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton's 232.
