MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The state of emergency was introduced in France as the initiative of President Francois Hollande after the November tragedy and has been extended three times since then. The latest six-month extension began on July 26.
"The state of emergency allows us to make arrests and employ other administrative measures that are very effective… Therefore, yes, we will probably extend the emergency state for a few more months," Valls told BBC's HARDtalk program.
Valls added that it would be difficult to cancel the emergency state as the presidential campaign would soon begin with its meetings and mass gatherings.
The French presidential election is scheduled for April and May 2017.
The prime minister noted that the risk of attacks similar to those that targeted Paris on November 13, 2015, leaving 130 people dead, was decreasing. However, Valls noted, there is still a menace of attacks similar to what happened in Nice in July, where a truck rammed into a crowd, killing 86.
The Paris attacks were carefully coordinated and carried out by a group of terrorist, whereas the one in Nice was conducted by one person.
