"The Council urges Iran to use its influence on the Syrian regime to end the violence against civilian populations, humanitarian personnel and civilian and humanitarian infrastructures, enable full unhindered country-wide humanitarian access and engage constructively in a negotiated political process," an official European Council statement said.
Syria's civil war between government forces and a wide range of insurgents, including opposition groups and terrorists, such Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, both outlawed in Russia, has raged for some five years and has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
