New Delhi (Sputnik) — Tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan after an intense bout of gunfire on Sunday night. Pakistan has accused India of killing seven of its soldiers on the border and summoned the Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Gautam Bambawale to register its protest at the violence.
“Seven (Pakistani) soldiers embraced shahadat (martyrdom) at the Line of Control (LoC) in in a ceasefire violation by Indian troops late last night,” Pakistan military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said on Monday. The Pakistan Foreign Affairs Ministry also put out a series of tweets condemning the ‘continuous unprovoked’ Indian firings.

Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, in an interview to Radio Pakistan, called upon the world community to take notice of Indian provocations and suggested that escalation of tension between the two nuclear armed neighbors could prove catastrophic for the whole region.
In the last month, over a dozen Indian soldiers have lost their lives. There has been shelling and cross border firing since India conducted ‘surgical strikes’ to avenge the deaths of 19 soldiers in a terrorist attack on the Uri military base camp in September.
