Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US State Secretary John Kerry discussed on Monday in a phone call the Syrian crisis with the focus on the situation around the embattled city of Aleppo, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the statement, Lavrov and Kerry agreed to continue bilateral expert consultations on resolving the standoff between militants and government forces in Aleppo.

"During the discussion, Lavrov stressed that illegal armed groups and the so-called 'local council' in eastern Aleppo are refusing to take part in efforts to resolve the situation," the ministry said in a statement.
