MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the WFP, the country’s farmers have been left unable to cope amid the ongoing crisis amid rising prices and scarcity of essential inputs. According to the UN food assistance branch, the situation could have an impact on food availability in the country and lead to further displacements.
"The food security situation of millions of people inside Syria continues to deteriorate with more than seven million people classified as food insecure across the country having exhausted their life savings and no longer able to put food on the table for their families," WFP Regional Director for the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and East Europe Muhannad Hadi said.
The ongoing violence in Syria has caused a large-scale humanitarian crisis and claimed the lives of thousands of people and displaced millions more. The international community, including the United Nations, has undertaken steps to end the Syrian conflict and to improve the humanitarian situation in the Middle Eastern country.
