MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Paris climate deal was signed last December and came into effect earlier today after being ratified by over 55 nations responsible for 55 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
"The Paris agreement is historic and it is irreversible in law," Hollande said at the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Morocco, as quoted by the Elysee Palace twitter account.

French President Francois Hollande called on the United States to respect its obligations under the Paris climate agreement.
“The United States must respect the obligations it has undertaken. It is not only their duty, it is in their interest … France will lead the dialogue with the United States with openness, respect but with demand and determination,” Hollande said at the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Morocco, as quoted by the Elysee Palace twitter account.

US President-elect Donald Trump won elections on November 8. During his election campaign Trump said he was not a big believer in man-made climate change.
